A CONSORTIUM led by the property developer Bernard McNamara has sought planning permission to convert two listed flour mills at Grand Canal Dock in Dublin 4, into offices and apartments and to provide additional office space, 60 apartments and cultural facilities on the site. The consortium bought the former Dock Milling site of 1.47-acres at Barrow Street from the IAWS Group for £8.8 million 12 months ago. Designed by Burke-Kennedy Doyle, the mixed-use scheme will comprise 180,000 sq ft of high qualify offices, most of it in two new buildings, which will range in height from six to 13 storeys. In addition to 10 large, loft-style apartments in one of the mills, there will be 60 apartments in a new new block along the waterfront, which will vary from six to nine storeys high. The development will include a cultural and amenity facility and a dock-side cafe with two levels of car-parking at basement.
The site adjoins the area set aside by CIE for the proposed Barrow Street DART station.
