Ballinalack: €400,000Ballinalack House, a 17th century country house set back from the Dublin/Sligo Road six miles beyond Mullingar, Co Westmeath, has been lived in by a colourful array of characters since its first owner, an officer in King William's army, moved there in 1695.

The six-bedroom property is being auctioned by Sherry Fitz-Gerald Davitt and Davitt, which is guiding €400,000.

Sitting in its own grounds of around two acres, the house has a large entrance hall plus a sittingroom, diningroom and livingroom on the main floor, all with timber floors and open fires. The kitchen, with its tiled floor and Belfast sink, has a large bay window looking out to the rear.

The house has four bedrooms and a bathroom on the upper floor. There are two further bedrooms in the basement, along with an office (with computer and ISDN points), toilet, shower room, and utility room.

The lands includes a stone outhouse and two sheds.

After a fire, the house was rebuilt by new owners in 1974. Sold again in 1999, the property has refurbished as a comfortable modern home.
