Kinsaley, a six-bedroom Georgian house on just over four acres at Kinsealy, Co Dublin, is for sale at £2 million through Malahide agent Denis Drum.
Named for the original townland, it is an elegant two-storey over basement house that was owned by Teagasc for many years and reverted to private use in the early 1990s. The present owners have restored much of Kinsaley House since they moved here in 1992, installing timber sash windows and stripping back the pitch pine floors throughout. Wiring and plumbing is also recent. There is still work to do and a new owner will be someone who appreciates the many fine qualities in the property.
First consideration will be to replace the original driveway of the house for which planning permission has been recently granted. The current entrance will be closed once the sale is through and will form the entrance to a new property which the owners plan to build beside Kinsaley House.
The interior of Kinsaley House has been given some Victorian touches, but its proportions are unmistakably Georgian. There is a wide hallway with decorative cornicing and a polished floor. The timber staircase faces the door at the rear of the hall.
To the left, the drawingroom has a comfortable lived-in feel. The Victorian fireplace is of terracotta veined marble with tiled insert, there is nice cornice work and three shuttered windows allow plenty of light. A door leads out to a terrace which once held a conservatory.
The original diningroom across the hall is now a second sittingroom with marble fireplace and a serving-room, off which is room now used as a diningroom. At the rear of the house, the owners have installed a bathroom and utility room, and have converted an adjoining stable to a magnificent country kitchen. The kitchen walls are of exposed brick and stone, the floor is flagged and the original black-leaded range is still in use. Outside the kitchen there is a south-facing terrace.
The four bedrooms on the first floor are all large, with polished pine floors. You can just see Ireland's Eye from the front room windows. There is a twin bathroom suite on the half landing with a footed bath and two showers. The attic floor has two double bedrooms with curved ceilings, heavy original beams and floor-level windows. The basement of the house is in its original state, down to the old kitchen range and oak beams. Outside, there is about an acre of lawn to the front and side of the house with several old spruce and sycamore trees. A group of cut-stone stables and outbuildings could be converted to additional accommodation or townhouses, subject to planning permission. A two-acre meadow fronts the road.
