One of Dublin's best-known bars, Ryan's of Parkgate Street, has been withdrawn at auction at £1.025 and sold subsequently by John Younge for a price believed to be around £1.25 million. The new owners are Kevin Fitzsimons and Patsy Ryan. The same premises changed premises three years ago for £1 million.
Another famous city centre pub, McDaid's, at Harry Street, opposite the Westbury Hotel, could set a record for a traditional-style licensed premises when it goes to auction through Morrissey. Although the ground floor has less than 600 sq ft, it may well beat the £2,010,000 paid two years ago by Louis Fitzgerald for Kehoe's, on South Anne's Street. McDaid' s is owned by Paul Keaveney, who is developing a new bar in South William Street, and recently opened The Odeon at Harcourt Street.
Meanwhile, Gunne expects to secure about £2 million for The Northway House at North Road, Finglas, Dublin 11, when it goes to auction on December 9th. The premises, located on the main Dublin-Slane road, have considerable development potential because they stand on a site of one acre. The business had a turnover last year of £916,000.
