Shopfront: Renaissance on Camden Street in Dublin has long been a source for those in-the-know trying to find Italian, French and English chandeliers - some new, some old, some new that look old and vice versa.
It is due to close at the end of this month and so is worth a final look. Don't be put off when first entering the shop: you are likely to be greeted by the resident dog and the place has a bric-a-brac atmosphere (everything is piled casually into the small space).
But take a closer look and you'll find lighting with character. "Character" can suggest dodgy quality and it does have to be said that some of the chandeliers, table lamps and other fittings aren't in the best condition.
Never mind - the odd scratch and natural wear and tear add to the whole shabby chic look (artfully battered might sum it up best) and the prices are far less than you might pay for something in perfect nick on Francis Street.
The best part about the imminent closure - for you at least - is that all prices are cut to sell-off level and start at about €300 for a spindly cut glass and metal frame chandelier.
While lighting is the shop's speciality also look out for mirrors and kitschy bits and pieces such as lamp stands in the shape of cartoon character Betty Boop.
