US INSURANCE company Cigna has paid £1.25 million for a large Georgian building which it occupies at 5 Fitzwilliam Square, Dublin. It is one of the highest prices achieved for a Georgian house in the city, according to the selling agents, Finnegan Menton. Cigna's decision to acquire the freehold interest was prompted by its desire to withdraw from the long-term lease in order to allow it to relocate to a modern office building in the city centre. The company has been paying an annual rent of £91,000 for the 7,000-square-foot building under a 35-year full repairing and insurance lease which was not due to run out until the year 2016. Cigna has now put the five-storey over basement building back on the market and is seeking offers over £900,000 for it. Agents Donal O Buachalla are in discussions with several interested parties.
