Milano, a detached villa on Vico Road, Dalkey, perched high above Killiney Bay, has a number of rooms with outstanding views.

Built 150 years ago, but substantially modernised over the years, the 1,800 sq ft house is for sale by private treaty at £700,000 through HOK Residential. It last came on the market in 1995 but failed to sell at the guide price of £245,000 and has been rented out since then. The house is at the Dalkey end of Vico Road, within walking distance of Dalkey village. A railed gate and steps lead up from the road to an elevated front garden and sun patio. There is no off-street parking, and no on-street parking on this stretch of the road.

The hall door opens on to a narrow hall. To the left is a large drawingroom connected to a large diningroom by glazed doors. Each room has a big bay window giving panoramic sea and mountain views. Currently furnished in an eclectic mix of styles , these two striking reception rooms are spacious enough to accommodate a lot of furniture without looking in any way cluttered.

A glazed timber-framed door leads to a family room at the end of the hall. This has a parquet floor and a small cast-iron fireplace. The L-shaped kitchen/breakfastroom has a fitted Neff electric oven and gas hob. New owners might want to upgrade floor and wall units, and remove the floor lino to reveal the original red quarry tiles underneath.

A small study/family room connected to both kitchen and hall has a red quarry-tiled floor, a large, bricked fireplace and an attractive bay window. There is a ground-floor toilet and good under-stairs storage.

Upstairs, all three bedrooms are front-facing and, again, have wonderful views. The main bedroom has two large picture windows, a large fitted four-door wardrobe and a cast-iron fireplace. A second good-sized bedroom has fitted wardrobes painted white. The third bedroom has a charming window seat upholstered in pastel colours with matching curtains.

The rear-facing bathroom has a bath with shower attachment, toilet, and washhand basin set into a large vanity unit. Outside, the front garden is set in lawn. A path at the side of the house leads through a door to steps which climb to a raised rear patio area, ideal for al fresco eating, which has spectacular views.

Outside the kitchen is a storage area, and more steps up to a separate room with a fireplace which was probably a maid's room in earlier days and could now be used as a store room. Removing this lobby area completely would give more garden space and direct access to the rear patio.
