149 homes for Dorset Street: Barina Construction Ltd is seeking permission to build 149 apartments on the site of a former Esso service station on Dorset Street. Two apartment blocks, ranging in height from six to four storeys, will be built on the 1.41-acre site, which is bounded by Dorset Street Upper, Wellington Street Lower, Paradise Palace and St Mary's Place North.
In plans lodged to Dublin City Council the developer is seeking to build two residential blocks at 107 to 115 Dorset Street Upper and number 65 to 105 Wellington Street Lower.
Previous developments by Barina Construction include Furry Park Court in Howth, Santa Sabina Manor in Sutton, Larch Hill, Santry and Hamilton Hall in Dunboyne.
€5m house to be demolished
The owners of a house in Killiney, which sold for almost €5 million last summer, are seeking permission to demolish the house to make way for a larger house. John and Joan Nagel of Paddock Wood, Killiney Hill Road, are seeking permission from Dún Laoghaire Rathdown County Council to demolish the existing three-storey four-bed house and replace it with a three-storey six-bed house, a detached two-storey double garage and an outdoor swimming pool.
Appeal for 28-storey tower
The National Association of Building Co-operatives (NABCO) has appealed Dublin City Council's decision to refuse permission for a major mixed-use development at the old Player Wills factory premises to An Bord Pleanála.
The developers' plans to build 879 residential units, including a 28-storey apartment block in Dolphin's Barn, were turned down by the council in January. In its decision to refuse permission, the city council said that while a skyscraper could be "a positive contribution" to the area, the current proposals were "premature" for the site, pending an action area plan for the Dolphin's Barn area.
Meanwhile, Dublin City Council has postponed a decision on Treasury Holdings plans to to build a 32-storey tower block in Barrow Street. The council is seeking additional information regarding the environmental impact of the 112-apartment development, including a shadow analysis to demonstrate the effects of the proposal on residential properties, an impact on the city skyline, a traffic and car-parking survey.
