Stars seek home improvements

• Bono and Enya are hoping to get some springtime home improvements done on their Killiney homes - if Dún Laoghaire Rathdown planners give the go-ahead.

U2 front man Paul Hewson (Bono) and his wife Ali are seeking permission for the retention of a first floor terrace at the home they bought next door to their Temple Hill mansion on Vico Road, Killiney, Co Dublin. The couple are also seeking permission to install a new lift which will give access to a roof terrace at Lios Beag.

Meanwhile, Eithne Brennan (Enya) is seeking permission to erect 450mm-high cast-iron railings and to install three retractable granite bollards at the entrance to her Victorian home, Manderley Castle, on Victoria Road, Killiney.

Also in Killiney, Una Quaid, the owner of Eagle House, has been given the thumbs-up for a development in the village.

She has been granted permission to demolish the post office and replace it with two own-door apartments. Last year Dún Laoghaire Rathdown County Council refused plans to build three own-door apartments on the same site.

Apartments for restaurant

• Dan McGrattan of McGrattan's Restaurant on Fitzwilliam Lane, Dublin 2 has been given the green light to build five apartments over the restaurant. Subject to a number of conditions, Dublin City Council has approved plans to add one- and two-bedroom apartments at first and second-floor level over the popular restaurant at 76 Fitzwilliam Lane, off Baggott Street.

1,158 new homes get go-ahead

• Terry Devey's Heritage Properties has got the thumbs-up for 330 apartments on the site of a former engineering premises on Shanowen Road, between St Kevin's Boys Club and Shanowen Business Park. Meanwhile Parkway Partnership has got approval for 422 homes in north-west Balbriggan. The development on a 9.34-hectare site is bounded by Flemmington Lane, the N1, the Naul Road and Bridgefoot Road.

Over in Maynooth, Eamonn Coleman's Sherwood Homes has been given the go-ahead from the appeals board to build 241 homes at Newtown, Maynooth while in Clane Patrick Fadden's Westar Investments Ltd has also secured the green light to build 165 homes at Capdoo Commons in Clane, Co Kildare.
