€200m Mullingar plan appealedThe IMC cinema group and Shannon Regional Fisheries Board are two of eight parties to appeal a €200 million residential, shopping and entertainment scheme beside Mullingar town centre in Co Westmeath.
Rickaton (Construction) Ltd, whose directors are Christopher Bennett, John Bennett, Eugene Moor and Michael Piggott, are proposing 80 apartments, 58 shops, a multi-screen cinema, restaurant, café and cultural building at Blackhall and Bleachyard.
IMC has opposed the 1,000-seat cinema saying it "fails to recognise the existence of the cinema at Lakepoint", and would result in an oversupply of cinema seats in the catchment area, "thereby undermining the operational stability of the Lakepoint Centre and possibly diverting trade from Longford, Tullamore, and Athlone".
Shannon Regional Fisheries Board has asked that a 10-metre buffer zone be established either side of the River Brosna to protect the brown trout population. It also asks that a condition of planning be that the Mullingar sewerage treatment improvement scheme be completed before the residential element of the scheme is occupied.
