Dublin's streets will echo once again to the sounds of century-old engines next Sunday when the Pioneer Run takes place.
The annual event on the first Sunday in July is for cars and motorcycles built prior to 1905, as is the famous London to Brighton Run.
Organised by the Royal Irish Automobile Club which itself dates back to 1901, the Pioneer Run takes place with the support of Collier, Jackson-Stops, the international property consultants.
Around 30 cars and motorcycles will take part this year. Most entries are from Ireland, but about one third come from overseas.
The cavalcade through the city will go from the RIAC Clubhouse on Dawson Street to the official start at the Phoenix Park Visitor Centre. The cars set-off oldest first and this year that honour falls to the rare 1899 Sperry Cleveland of Dubliner Reg Plunkett.
The Cleveland will be followed by the 1901 De Dion of veteran car legend Ossie Bennett from Johnstown, Co Kilkenny. Ossie has a unique record in the famous London to Brighton Run having competed in no fewer than 37, and having received the coveted Finisher's Award on 36 occasions!
Other entries include the only-known Century car in existence as well as representatives of Gladiator, Martini, Clement, Renault, Thornycroft and Lambert makes.
From the Phoenix Park, the cars and motorcycles will set out on a route through the Strawberry beds, Lucan, Leixlip and Maynooth to Straffan Lodge near Naas, which is also the location of a wonderful steam museum.
The Pioneer Run vehicles will be on display at Straffan Lodge, where they will be joined by other classic cars and motorcycles coming to share a memorable old-car day-out.
