Big Triumph plays to win
Triumph motorcycles has unveiled a new 1600cc cruiser poised to take on Harley-Davidson.
The Triumph Thunderbird is fitted with a 1594cc, liquid-cooled, parallel twin engine that makes about 100bhp and is derived from the Triumph Rocket III.
There's a six-speed gearbox and conventional telescopic forks supporting the front and twin shocks at the back end on 10-spoke cast-wheels.
No price has been announced, but the Thunderbird is likely to be on show at the forthcoming Intermot show at Cologne in October.
An intruder in the house
Meanwhile, Suzuki motorcycles has unveiled its new long-distance cruiser, the Intruder C1800RT.
Powered by a fuel-injected, liquid-cooled, 1783cc DOHC V-twin engine, it also features a large windshield, saddlebags, passenger backrest, pullback handlebars and floorboards.
It has a five-speed gearbox, 16-inch wheels, and weighs in at 357kg dry.
Top spot for Honda sales
According to the latest CSO figures, Honda has hit the number one spot in new bike sales for July, with 65 new motorcycles licensed for the first time.
Suzuki achieved second place with a total of 46, and Yamaha came in third with total sales of 44 new motorcycles last month.
