Gordon Crockard, British Supercross champion
What do you ride? A 450cc Honda Cas
How did you get involved in the sport? My Dad was Irish Motocross champion in 1987, so the family have been involved.
Your first machine? I got my first bike when I was nine-years-old, a 60cc Kawasaki - it was in 1987. I rode this bike just for fun with my family. I didn't start racing until I was 12 when I started to beat my Dad.
Your first race? I entered my first race then and won. I raced as a schoolboy up to the age of 16. I started entering races at adult level once I left school. I became Irish champion at the age of 17 on my first attempt in 1988. Then when I was 18 I went professional. I rode for Honda UK and won the British championships three times - in 2000, 2001 and 2003.
Do you have a road bike? No, it would be inconvenient. Anyway, I'd probably hurt myself.
Do you take an interest in any other motorsport? No, motocross takes up practically all of my time so I don't have time for anything else. I'm not a die-hard fan of road racing.
Do you think MotoX is a dangerous sport? No, for motor sport it's relatively safe. It's safer than road racing - the miles per hour is low which keeps safety high.
Have you ever had any accidents on the bike? Yes, I've broken my legs and arms - and my collarbone. I've had lots of broken bones, ligament and tendon damage, but nothing serious.
Your long-term ambition? I want to win the world championships this year. I came third in 2001. I've won four Grand Prix in my time and have had numerous podium wins. My goal would definitely be to win the championships. I came close last year but didn't win because of bad machinery. So hopefully this year I'll be healthy and have good machinery. This year's World Champion Supercross is a 16-round event that runs from March to October.
