Thousands of motoring enthusiasts are expected at this weekend's Phoenix Park races marking the centenary of motor sport in Ireland. Now the oldest motor sport venue in the world still in use, it has previously played host to a land speed record and three international Grand Prix between 1929 and 1931. Michael McAleer reports.

This year, along with the 28 races, spectators are likely to be attracted to the prospect of seeing a collection of Ferraris, which includes a €1 million Enzo and one of Michael Schumacher's Formula One cars. The German's car will feature in a demonstration lap driven by Irish racing driver Michael Cullen.

Last year's event was cancelled due to lack of funding, but this year with the support of new sponsors the 1.73 mile Oldtown circuit, parts of which have been resurfaced, should offer up some entertaining racing.

Among the wide variety of races will be historic competitions, Formula Vee and a full grid of Formula Sheane 1.8-litre single seaters.
