This is the upcoming Mercedes-Benz CL luxury coupé, spotted here running relatively lightly disguised, with matt black tape over its gloss black paintwork.
By and large, the tape appears simply applied over the bodywork to hide details like lamp units and rear window shape, but the contour on the rear wings could disguise a prominent wheelarch bulge, like that on the B-Class and M-Class, and also seen on the upcoming S-Class.
What is clear, despite the disguise, is that the next-generation CL has a bonnet standing proud of hunkered front wings.
Developed on the same platform as the upcoming S-Class, the CL - Mercedes's biggest luxury coupé - will also feature much of the new technology from the next S-Class, so expect developments of Mercedes's active safety systems like Pre Safe and Brake Assist Plus.
Engines will also mirror those in higher-grade S-Class models; a 5-litre V8 and 6-litre V12 likely to be the debutant models, with AMG versions following later.
The CL's S-Class sister-model will be unveiled at the Frankfurt Motor Show in September, but we imagine that the CL won't debut until a few months later, perhaps at next January's Detroit show.
The new S-Class is both longer and wider than the current model, with a CLS - or Maybach-esque droop to the tail.
At the front, almond-shaped headlights feature and, according to someone who has seen it up close, the grille is a flush-fitting affair with slender slats. It will also feature fewer buttons inside, with a new Mercedes control system on the lines of BMW's i-Drive and Audi's MMI systems.
Beneath the skin, the next-generation S-Class, codenamed W221, will still be rear-wheel-drive, with 4Matic all-wheel-drive likely to remain only an option in some markets.
Petrol engines will start with a 3-litre V6, but also include the new, 268bhp 3.5-litre V6 from the SLK and M-Class. There will also be the 5-litre V8.
Expect also one, possibly two turbodiesels, of 3-litre capacity, one badged S280 CDI, the other S320 CDI. All engines will drive through a seven-speed automatic gearbox.
