I keep different books in different rooms. It’s more about a mood, whether I’m in the mood for escapism, or a thriller, or a spy intrigue.
If I feel like escapism, I'll pick a thriller in the kitchen. Currently it's Stieg Larsson's The Girl Who Kicked the Hornet's Nest(Quercus Publishing).
In the TV room, I have The Storm of War: A New History of the Second World Warby Andrew Roberts (Penguin UK) – a very good book.
In the bedroom, I have Medusa: A Novel from the Numa Filesby Clive Cussler (Michael Joseph), since spy intrigue is something that I have a penchant for.
My father was the same about books. The guys in the golf club used to say he had “a book upstairs and a book downstairs”. He always had a couple on the go.
I’m a slow reader. I take everything in. I could never belong to a book club because I’d never get through a book in a month, though if I go on holiday, I read a lot – cover to cover.
Cruises always have a library on board, the golf club has a book club and at Tara Glen, a mobile home park, they have an informal book library where people leave a book and pick up a book.
