CAIRDE FESTIVAL

This dance, theatre and music festival runs all week in Sligo. There’s a storytelling event each day at 11am at Sligo General Hospital and again at 2pm at Sligo County Library, for children up to eight years.

For the adults, tomorrow night in McGarrigles, DJs and performers will take on global sounds, from Havana to Hong Kong. The night begins at 10pm and admission is €4. 087-2214079 cairdefestival.com

Tonight at the Instituto Cervantes in Dublin, a free discussion, New Frontiers, New Territories, takes place with Spanish and Irish photographers. WESTLIFE

At a time when many big acts are struggling to fill venues, Westlife perform two sell-out shows at the Marquee in Cork tonight and tomorrow.

BOG WALK

Ballinamuck prides itself as one of the most scenic and historic towns in Ireland, mainly due to the battle of Ballinamuck, fought in 1798, when the Irish and French took on the English. This walk takes in 5kms of bog roads and green tracks, and takes two hours. It’s classified as easy, and don’t forget insect repellent irishtrails.ie

IRISH CANON

Watch the Irish drama and history flash before your eyes as ITSA Theatre Company take to the stage in the Mill Theatre, Dundrum, bringing Irish figures alive from the past century. Three actors take on 10 plays and 70 characters. Tickets are €14/12. 01-4969340, milltheatre.com

EVENING PADDLE

Tomorrow night, at the Clearsky Adventure Centre in Strangford Lough, beginners and those with a little experience can learn how to master the art of kayaking. For over-18s.
