Author and former Irish Timesjournalist Paddy Woodworth has joined forces with San Sebastian Food, a company specialising in gastronomic and culinary tourism, to launch Discover the Basque Country.
The package offers access to parts of the Spanish region that most tourists never reach, plus expert information on its culture, cuisine, history and politics. A highlight of the next tour, from July 5th to 8th, is a behind-the-scenes visit to the elaborate fiesta ceremonies in the medieval village of Lesaka. Also included are a Basque cookery class with a leading chef, a private dinner in San Sebastian’s acclaimed Bokado restaurant, accommodation in a 16th-century coaching inn in the French Basque village of Sare, and a tasting in one of Europe’s best wine cellars. Woodworth and Jon Warren of San Sebastian Food will accompany the group of no more than 15 throughout.
