WHATEVER ABOUT a snowfall this Christmas, anyone who expects a windfall could consider spending the proceeds on Ashford Castle’s Christmas package.
It’s dear, but it does sound good. Check in at noon on Christmas Eve and sit down to mulled wine and mince pies in front of a log fire.
Later in the day, there’s afternoon tea in the drawingroom, followed by cocktails, and dinner followed by Santa Claus bearing gifts. Rounding off the night there’s carol singing and jazz.
Next day, have a light breakfast, followed by golf, a cruise on Lough Corrib, traditional music and hot whiskeys. Then a buffet lunch, a treasure hunt, followed again by cocktails and a lavish dinner and dancing, and midnight mince pines and yet more mulled wine.
Next day, the highlights include a jazz brunch, more cruising on the Corrib and a cookery demonstration in the castle kitchen, followed by yet more dining. The cost is from €1,750 per person sharing for the three-night package.
