Gadgets: the surf o’clock watch, a pocket lantern and a self-stirring coffee mug

Rip Curl Search GPS Surf Watch
Watch-wearing may have disappeared among a huge swathe of the populationbut in sports and adventuring, innovation in wrist-wear continues apace. This is Rip Curl's surf-specific entry, the Search GPS. It tracks your runs, logs your top speed, distance and and so on. And it all syncs with an app or online to share and revisit. It might refire GPS as a way to measure speed for surf competitions or simply give you bragging rights beach-side.

Black Diamond Orbit Lantern
The photo doesn't really show the scale here, because Black Diamond's Orbit is actually pocket-sized. But it's no toy. Collapsible and powered by four AAA batteries, it still throws out a creditable 60 lumens from its LED when operating as a lantern, and a little less in torch mode. Switching between the two settings is easy, with a neat action, while the frosted globe slides up to give a 360-degree pool of dimmable light. When folded down, it's just a titchy 102mm (4in) tall.

Hoter USB Coffee Cup
Yes, only one "t". This is the Hoter self-heating, self-stirring USB-powered coffee mug. Ok, so you can bring a flask to keep your coffee hot. Or, heaven forbid, actually stir your mug manually with a spoon, but where's the technology in that? That's so analogue. Instead, travel with yet another USB-charged device and wire up.
It's simple to use, with a battery-level display and buttons for heating or stirring. Again, it's smaller than might be expected, only about 130ml. Available in a range of colours.  Just don't expect your brew to be scalding hot . . .
