National Botanic Gardens, Glasnevin,

Sunday, November 2nd

Get another wear out of that spooky outfit by joining in the costume parade tomorrow at the National Botanic Gardens. For the past couple of years staff at the gardens in Glasnevin have created a special Halloween event, where kids can come along dressed up and spend the day in the gardens. The director, Peter Wyse Jackson who lives in the gardens is kicked out of his beautiful house by a witch who will answer the door to trick or treating mini monsters, ghouls or fairies. It's usually controlled mayhem - with many mammy and daddies dressing up too - but at least there are acres and acres of grounds for kids to run around in and come down off the sugar rushes.

Listen up Find the wizard who spends the afternoon giving Harry Potter horticultural tours pointing out the many weird plants, usually poisonous or, at the very least, insect-eating, mentioned in the books.

The restaurant in the Botanic Gardens is fine for a snack but for a real treat locals in the know head to the hidden-away Andersons Food Hall and Cafe on the Rise, just off Griffith Avenue.

If you can't go tomorrow Don't miss the magnificent pumpkin display just inside the gates. It might only last another week, so hurry!

The costume parade starts at 2.30pm.

Admission Free.
