YOU’VE LOST your job, your former employer has disappeared and the entire sector to which you have given your life has been eviscerated. Do not despair. All is not lost. Go is here to tell you there are more ways to make a living than you ever thought possible.

Just ask husband-and-wife team Dennis and Frances – the website doesn’t give surnames, but then possibly they don’t need one. Their self-styled billing as creators of the world’s largest dog-shaped B&B is name enough. Even if it does suggest, terrifyingly, that there may be more.

Based in Cottonwood, Idaho, the dog-loving duo has created the Dog Bark Park Inn in the shape of a giant beagle.

And the canine theme runs throughout, from dogs carved on the headboards to dog- shaped cookies on your pillow and more carved dogs than you can shake a stick at in the gift shop.

Guests enter via a wooden stairway that, viewed from the dog’s off-side, looks as if it leads you straight into its backside. Viewed from the nearside, however, you see entry is via a second-storey deck that runs along its midriff.

Dennis and Frances describe themselves as “self- taught” chainsaw sculpture artists – another career you never knew existed.

Accommodation starts at just under $90 (about €70) per night, but, of course, you’d want to be barking.
