Foraging in Carlow
The Fabulous Fungi Foraging event takes place this weekend in the Blackstairs Mountains near Borris, Co Carlow. The weekend will educate people about the wide variety of mushrooms on their doorstep – the edible, the poisonous, the colourful and the strange. Fungi expert, Jonathan Spazzi, will host the weekend. East Africa crisis
Lectures in aid of Trócaire’s East Africa Crisis Appeal will take place at Basecamp, Middle Abbey Street, Dublin at 7pm on Monday. Lorna Siggins and Adrian Hendroff are among the speakers attending.
Marathon preparation
With less than eight weeks to go until the Dublin Marathon it’s now more important than ever to get the balance right as you approach the final stages of your preparation. To help you on your way, Irish international runner John O’Regan will present the Great Outdoors autumn lecture next Tuesday at 7pm. He will give valuable tips and advice in the lead up to race day. WAR in Wicklow
If you want to be seen as seriously tough why not take on the Wicklow Adventure Race (War) at Powerscourt on September 24th. Competitors will tackle the Sugar Loaf, kayak on the Vartry Lakes, cycle over the Sally Gap, and run above the Powerscourt Waterfall. Based at Powerscourt Estate, there will be a full War course of 65km and a shorter, beginner-friendly option of 39km. The event will raise much needed funds for Concern’s East Africa Crisis Appeal.
