Heritage Week
Mayo: At Ballycroy National Park there are guided walks of Tóchar Daithí Bán (a two-kilometre nature trail) at 12pm every day except Tuesday and Thursday. A ranger-led hike (four to five hours) takes place on Friday. There are also children's activities. More information on 098-49888.
Leitrim: There will be a walk in Lurganboy forest tomorrow and a brief history and architecture talk on Hamilton's Castle: suitable for children. Dogs on lead allowed. More info on 087-9172143, e-mail: info@tawnylustlodge.com.
Kilkenny:Today there's a guided walk of the Nore Valley trail at noon, and a "pop-up picnic" in Bennettsbridge at 3pm, where delicious platters from local food producers will be served. Meet at the River Court Hotel, John Street, or at 2pm in Bennettsbridge for the shorter looped walk. A free bus will bring all walkers back to Kilkenny city at 4.30pm.
Tomorrow will see the launch of the Freshford Trail at the square in Freshford at 2pm. The three-mile walk takes about two hours, and walkers are advised to wear suitable shoes. More details on 087-6874887.

River Suir walk: There will be a guided tow-path walk tomorrow from Carrick-on-Suir to Kilsheelan in Co Tipperary. Meeting at Ormond Castle (below) for registration at 12pm, this easy walk will be 10km. Hiking boots, rain gear, snack and fluids are required. More details from: Eileen Horgan 087-6395499
