Sea2summit:Westport will host the Sea2summit challenge next Saturday.
Organised by the Westport Plaza Castlecourt Hotel Resort with direction from Padraig Marrey, winner of the 2010 Gael Force Achill Roar Race, the event comprises a mix of road running, cycling, a mountain hike and finishes with a short sea run and obstacle course.
Participants can enter the supreme (56.5km), the spirit (27.5km) or the relay (56.5km, teams of three). Westport Plaza Castlecourt Hotel Resort has put together a variety of packages from €219pps for entrants, including event registration, two nights BB, high carbohydrate meal (Friday), hot buffet meal (Saturday) and more. Comeragh walking
Comeragh Mountaineering Club has two walks each Sunday meeting at 10am at the Hypercentre in Waterford city or by arrangement in the mountains. The walks are graded “C” – up to 10km – and “B” ( longer and at a faster pace). Visitors are welcome once properly equipped and have phoned 086-6287988 or emailed brianj2@musgrave.ie (club PRO) before coming out. The routes are usually decided by the walk leader close to the Sunday and there is a walks schedule available at comeraghclub.ie.
For the birds
To celebrate the release of the new Field Guide to Ireland's Birds, a talk entitled A year of birds – a photographic journeywill be given by the author and professional bird guide Eric Dempsey at 7.30pm in the auditorium of the Botanic Gardens, Glasnevin on November 11th.
This will be followed by the opening of an art exhibition of paintings from the new book by illustrator Michael O’Clery. The exhibition will run in the main gallery of the Botanic Gardens until Sunday, November 21st. Tel: 01-8570909 or botanicgardens.ie.
