Marie Curie Scrabo Tower abseilFor something a little different, why not step backwards off Scrabo Tower (below), one of Northern Ireland's most recognisable landmarks, perched high above Newtownards on Scrabo Hill? A climb of 122 steps will take participants to the open viewing level. Challenge yourself, your best friend or a family member to step up to this hair-raising event, which takes place in Co Down on April 4th.

Go the distanceBudding and blossoming marathon runners can learn about improving their performance at a series of running seminars. The first, at Ballsbridge Court Hotel in Dublin at 11am today, is hosted by three-time Dublin Marathon winner Dick Hooper.

The seminar is aimed at novice to intermediate runners who want to learn how to run the distance. Seminars follow in Belfast, Cork and Limerick before returning to the capital for The Home Stretch, with tips on the final phase of training for the Dublin Marathon, on October 26th, plus strategies for post-race recovery.
