Helping handsThe people behind Hands Up Errigal are inviting you to join them in their attempt tomorrow to form a human chain all the way up Mount Errigal. Errigal is the highest peak in Co Donegal, at 750m, and it will take at least 2,000 people to complete this feat. The event, which is open to everyone, aims to raise €50,000 to build a school in Sierra Leone. It costs €10 to participate. Assemble between noon and 1pm. www.handsuperrigal.com.
GeofestA new style of festival aimed at the outdoor enthusiast with an interest in culture, heritage, wildlife and the arts takes place on Iveragh Peninsula, in Co Kerry, over the October bank-holiday weekend. South Kerry Geofest has three days of walks and arts, cultural and social events, celebrating the landscape and the artists who are inspired by its beauty. The events take place in Sneem, Caherdaniel, Castlecove, Waterville, Ballinskelligs, Blackwater, Portmagee, Knightstown, Valentia Island and Caherciveen. www.southkerrygeofest.com.
Hearty walksTomorrow is World Heart Day, and the Irish Heart Foundation is marking the event by encouraging local communities to organise walks in the next week. The focus of the walks is good fun, with groups large and small asked to come together to promote physical activity and heart health. Walks can be organised at any time during the next week and can be any size. Last year almost 500 groups organised a walk, involving more than 10,000 people in total. If you register as a walk organiser you will receive a guide to organising your walk, a T-shirt, balloons and temporary Slí signs to mark and advertise your route. www.irishheart.ie/sli.
