A round-up of this week's travel news in brief
Vegas up
A delegation from 11 of Las Vegas’s top attractions – including Las Vegas Sands and Caesars Entertainment – arrives in Dublin on Monday on a promotional tour to attract more visitors from Ireland.
Despite the recession, visitor numbers from here are up, with 50,000 Irish going to Vegas last year said John Donohue of the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority, based in Dublin. This makes it the third largest destination for Irish travellers in the US after New York and Orlando.
Drug scare
Over-the-counter medicines legal in Ireland and the UK could be banned in some countries, travel insurer Mondial Assistance UK has warned. Japan has strict anti-stimulant drug laws, which includes codeine, present in many mild painkillers, and could apply to something like decongestant inhalers. Some prescribed medicines could contain controlled drugs, so travellers should check with their GP ahead of time, as they may need a letter to carry certain medications.
