IRISH HOTELS:YOU MIGHT associate Lidl with cut-price food shopping, unusual cooked meats and the odd unnecessary piece of DIY equipment but now the German supermarket chain is offering customers bargain hotel stays here in Ireland.
The supermarket, though its website lidl-breaks.ie, offers cheap rooms in some 250 hotels across the country, with a choice of three and four star hotel accommodation in some of Ireland’s most popular holiday destinations.
Lidl has rooms with a “Stay Longer for Less” offer, so you pay €45 a person for one night, €40 each per night for a two-night stay and €35 each per night for three nights or more. All nights include breakfast and up to two children under 10 can stay for free.
Aoife Clarke from Lidl told us that the idea came about because they were aware that more and more people would be staying in Ireland this year.
“We felt we would be in a position to offer customers great value hotel deals at affordable prices. Currently no other country offers Lidl breaks.”
Reaction to the new offer has been good too, “Initially we found it hard to keep up the supply as demand was so great,” adds Clarke.
Lidl also has pamper breaks too, which include various beauty and health treatments in hotels with spas.
There are currently almost 800,000 rooms available for sale until December 31st.
The savings that can be made are quite significant. We booked a three-night bed and breakfast stay for two in the Carlton Hotel in Tralee for €210. The same stay booked directly with the hotel was €340, representing a saving of €130.
There are similar savings in Dublin hotels, with a €57 saving on a three-night stay for two people at the Clarion Hotel Dublin Airport including breakfast using the Lidl site compared to the hotel’s own website.
