£60 to pick a seat on BA
British Airways passengers will have to pay up to £60 (€66) per person if they want to select seats when they book their flights. That charge applies to business class on long-haul flights. The charge for economy seats on European trips will be £10 (€11). The fees apply from October 7th. BA will still let passengers reserve seats without charge in the 24 hours before departure.
Budget stays on the up
Ireland’s hostels and other budget places to stay
have reported jumps in bookings of about 20 per cent overall this year, with much higher increases in places, according to Hostelworld.com. Donegal has seen a 115 per cent year-on-year increase in occupancy in 2009, it says.
Free paella in Dublin
Two paella chefs are flying in from Alicante to make a giant version of the classic Spanish dish in Dublin today. Preparation gets under way at 10.30am, and the Alicante and Spanish tourism boards are hoping at least 500 people will turn up to sample the results at 12.30pm, outside Stephen’s Green Shopping Centre.
