Work for free, says BA

Work for free for a month to help us survive. That was the message this week from British Airways chief executive Willie Walsh, who must steer the airline through a record loss of €475 million. He has invited staff to sign up for blocks of unpaid leave or unpaid work. Unions point out that Walsh earns €870,000 a year, compared with cabin crew’s average €35,500.

Stress ruins six million holiday days a year for Irish holidaymakers, according to Yakult. The company found that 59 per cent of people spend the first week of their holiday just switching off and trying to relax. Sixty-four per cent of people arrive at their destination stressed, while 35 per cent are contacted by work even though they are trying to relax and switch off.
