AS MOST PEOPLE usually only make it down to the far end of Dublin’s quays at night-time when they’re going to a concert in the O2, it’s interesting to go down there during the day at weekends when the Point Village Market is in full swing.
Stalls sell a mix of crafts, fashion, food – including a farmers market, bric-a-brac – pretty much anything goes. And after a rainy week the weather promises to be good.
The market runs from 10am to 6pm.
A big draw this weekend is the live music where three bands will take to the stage both today and tomorrow (beginning at noon) and play in a fund-raiser for the Musical Youth Foundation.
One of the most interesting aspects of the market is how many young stall holders it attracts.
The organisers operate a student incentive scheme whereby once students have a valid student card (including secondary students) they can apply for a free stall to sell things they have made.
The market began in May and to date students have sold all sorts of self-made goodies from fashion to jewellery.
Getting there is easy – it’s the last stop on the Luas red line.
Get a birds’ eye view of that part of Dublin from the Wheel of Dublin (pictured above), entry in the Point Village, open 10am to 10pm. Family tickets are €23.
