B&O Beoplay H5 Earbuds: There's little doubt that Bang & Olufsen's design gurus have given its new premium wireless earbuds more than a cursory sketch: these boast lots of smart touches. For instance, both earpieces have magnets in them, so that when not being used, they clip together and power off . The magnets hold them in place when attached to the H5's tiny recharging unit. Good job it is tiny as you only get five hours battery. Splash and dust resistant, Bluetooth pairs them wirelessly and the braided cable has an integrated remote control which also takes calls. €250 from beoplay.com
Segway miniPRO: The original Segway was the brainchild of Dean Kamen, who revolutionised the lives of diabetics sufferers with the insulin AutoSyringe. Its latest iteration looks part Segway, part hoverboard; one reassuring difference is this one isn't likely to burst into flames. With a top speed of about 15km/h from its 800W electric motor and a range of up to about 20km, the miniPRO is hardly a toy. The bar in the middle is held between your knees to finesse steering, though it can be driven remotely via app. But not in Ireland yet, as Amazon doesn't ship them here. $999 from amazon.com
Pentax K-70: While we're used to tough little compacts that are dustproof and water-resistant, such robustness is rarer in digital SLRs. The K-70 from Pentax is targeted at the great outdoors, able to operate as low as -10 degrees. It's got shake reduction, a night vision low-light mode, built-in wifi and a 24MP CMOS sensor. You can buy one body-only or get it bundled with an 18-135mm zoom. €999 (with lens), see ricoh-imaging.eu, due out this month.
