Marie Kinsella, a reader from Tallaght, in west Dublin, got in touch after being forced to cancel Ryanair flights because of a bereavement
“Can you please let me know how to go about getting a refund of airport taxes which I understand to be due to me from Ryanair? I booked six flights to Murcia, in Spain, for December 10th, 2008, but because of a death and for health reasons none of us ended up being able to take the flights. I e-mailed Ryanair seeking a refund of taxes, but it has ignored me. Is there some other procedure to get a refund?”
Ryanair responds “In cases of bereavement, Ryanair provides passengers with a full refund of their ticket price, not just the taxes and charges. Passengers can contact Ryanair customer service by faxing or by posting a written refund request; it is not possible to contact Ryanair via e-mail. In cases of bereavement we ask that the passenger include a copy of the death certificate. This passenger, who has only now come to our attention, as she did not write to our customer-care department, will be provided with a full refund.”
