LAURENCE MACKIN writes that Aer Lingus has made wedding planning easier
“I’m delighted to see that Aer Lingus is now offering group bookings on its website.
“Several years ago, while trying to organise my wedding, which was in France, I had to book numerous flights for friends and family. I couldn’t find an airline that was willing to handle a large group, and no airline was willing to negotiate a discount for block booking.
“It might seem like a good idea to let various members of a party organise their own flights, but when you end up having to collect them all from different airports at different times, you start to regret not being more organised and herding them all on to one flight like cattle.
“Also, when the photographer arrives in Cannes the night before the wedding when she should be in Nice, it’s not great for the heart.
Here’s hoping other airlines, and maybe even travel agents, follow suit – and perhaps go a step farther by offering discounts for group bookings.
“And I wonder what sort of air miles you could earn by booking a bunch of friends for a quick trip abroad. You could end up in first class while they have to slum it in economy, which is where your friends really come in handy – to gloat over.”
