INDIA IS made for the kind of traveller who can take a good long time discovering it – backpackers, leisurely honeymooners, retirees and soul-searchers who can spend weeks or months travelling and exploring its vastness and traditions.

But what about the rest of us who don’t have the time?

For job-bound souls, it’s hard to imagine being able to get a sense of India – there’s more than a million square miles of it – in just one holiday. But it can be done, according to The Travel Department which has put together an 11-night itinerary for taking in Delhi, the Taj Mahal and Rajasthan.

Departing next March, May and September, the tour features stays in five-star hotels in Delhi, Agra, Jaipur, Jodhpur and Udaipur with guided tours in each of the locations.

The excursions include a sunset tour of the Taj Mahal, and a full day trip to the Unesco World Heritage site of the 16th-century Agra Fort to explore its palaces, gardens and mosques, and to admire its dreamy far-off views of the Taj, and visits to some spectacular gardens in Udaipur.

With flights from Dublin, via Heathrow, and accommodation on a half-board basis, the holiday comes in at €1,825 plus taxes, putting it firmly in the trip-of-a-lifetime category.
