1980s REVISITED:Piat d'Or White and Piat d'Or Red
Piat d'Or White, Vin de pays du Gers, 11.5%, €6.99
The white is medium-dry with rounded refreshing apple fruits. It tastes not unlike an off-dry German wine but a bit softer. Most importantly of all, it is inoffensive and will appeal to a wide audience. I certainly taste far worse wines on a regular basis. Stockists:Molloys Liquor Stores, Supervalu, Centra and O'Briens off-licences.
Piat d'Or Red, Vin de pays d'Oc, 12%, €6.99

Like the white, the red is rounded and slightly sweet with easy vaguely plummy fruits. I tasted it blind on members of my family, and later on my wife's book club. Nobody sent it back. Stockists:Centra, Supervalu, Tesco, O'Briens off-licences.
