The place to be next week is St James's Church in Dingle, Co Kerry, where Philip King's annual Other Voices is being filmed, from Friday until December 9th, with a line-up that includes Ryan Adams, Sinéad O'Connor, Daniel Lanois and Once stars Glen Hansard and Markéta Irglová. Tickets are scarce (www.rte.ie/tv/othervoices), but you can always catch the atmosphere in Dingle anyway.

How did the Irish composer and pianist John Field become a renowned performer and teacher in 19th-century Russia? This is one of the themes explored at the International John Field Festival, at NUI Maynooth today from 10.15am. Highlights include a performance by John O'Conor and the RIAM Chamber Orchestra of Field's Piano Concerto No 6 (01-7083733).

Theatre
Stuck tells the story of a young boxer trapped behind the barricades at the halting site where he lives. Written by Rosaleen McDonagh (of the Travelling community) and directed by Jason Byrne, the play debuts at Project Arts Centre on Thursday to coincide with Traveller Focus Week and runs until December 15th. www.project.ie
Lit and hist sale
Sotheby's Dublin on Molesworth St hosts an exhibition on Wednesday and Thursday in advance of a Literature and History Sale which takes place in London on December 13th. The sale features much of Irish interest including a Lily Yeats collection, a rare photographic portrait of Joyce by Bernice Abbot; first editions, letters and presentation copies by Samuel Beckett, WB Yeats and Oscar Wilde.
Camino
The Camino de Santiago de Compostella has crept into our consciousness over the past few years as a potential antidote to the stresses of modern life, with more than 2,000 Irish people walking the route annually. A nice intermezzo to the Christmas season is the Winter Café at the National Concert Hall this Friday which features Derby Browne and the Snowflake Martini Ensemble performing seasonal Italian Café Music.
