The Rose Project was established in 2003 to help people affected by Aids or HIV in eastern and southern Africa - so far, it has reached 98,000 people through community-led Aids programmes in that region. The organisation is named after Rose Atieno, a Kenyan woman whose eight-year-old son Curtis nursed her until she died of Aids at the age of 32.

To mark World Aids Day (December 1st), five Irish designers, including John Rocha, Helen Cody, Fiona Hanley and Maree Hensey, have created a vibrant range of high-quality wrapping paper for any occasion; the sheet shown here is designed by Aideen Bodkin. Packs of five sheets, costing €5, are on sale in Brown Thomas, Clery's, Read's and boutiques nationwide. The proceeds go towards the Rose Project's Mother-to-Child campaign, which aims to prevent mother-to-child transmission of Aids during pregnancy, childbirth and breastfeeding, and treats patients in Lilongwe, Malawi.
