SOME 1,000 jobs have been created in Dublin's inner city through a partnership between the local community, business and State agencies, according to a Dublin Inner City Partnership (DICP) report published yesterday. It was presented to the Taoiseach, Mr Ahern.
The DICP is not just about generating opportunities, the report says. It is also involved in improving the environment for job-creation.
It says a focus for the year was creating new opportunities for women. This resulted in 1,900 women benefiting from training, education, child care, health and employment initiatives. Of the 1,000, 800 were lone parents who obtained positions on community employment schemes.
The DICP chairman, Mr Mark Hely Hutchinson, said: "The last 12 months has resulted in key services being expanded and made more accessible, thus promoting greater participation. As a result, 6,000 people have benefited from the various projects and services with the DICP."
The report claims one of its success stories has been the Social Economy Jobs Initiative.
