A 26-year-old technician was yesterday awarded €1.4 million in damages in the High Court in Cork after he suffered serious head injuries when he fell from the roof of a two-storey building while working on a television reception dish.

Martin Constant, the Crescent, Curraheen estate, Bishopstown, was awarded the damages in a settlement with his employer at the time, Cork Communications Ltd, trading as Chorus, Limerick Enterprise Development Park, Roxboro Road, Limerick.

The accident happened on September 24th, 2002, when Mr Constant was working alone on the roof of the house at Waterfall, Co Cork.

He was not wearing a safety harness at the time and suffered extensive head injuries but has recovered well since the accident.

Mr Justice Liam McKechnie was told that Mr Constant has not worked since the accident as it greatly affected his concentration while it has also limited his participation in sporting activities, in particular soccer, which he used to play regularly.
