Up to 10,000 fish have been killed in a second major kill in one of the premier sea trout fisheries in the south-west. Salmon, sea trout, brown trout and eels have died in the Argideen river near Clonakilty in west Cork over the past two days.
The South Western Regional Fisheries Board is investigating. It believes the kill may have been caused by lime being released into the river, poisoning about 2 1/2 miles of river.
