Luanda - Rapes of Angolan women and children, and diamond robberies by government soldiers led to the deaths of at least 100 people in the provinces of Lunda-Norte and Lunda-Sul between November 1999 and October 2000, the Catholic Church reported.
In the eastern towns of Mukonda, Kazuwa, and Ngowa, Angolan soldiers killed diamond traffickers before confiscating the precious stones, the church said in a human rights report released by its radio, Ecclesia.
