The HSE has today blamed an "administrative error" for a tender worth €10 million being advertised on the e-tenders website as worth up to €100 million.
The erroneous figures was given front-page coverage by at least one national newspaper.
The HSE said the tender notice on the e-tenders website has been amended to the correct figure.
The HSE has tendered for a framework agreement - a new procedure under the EU Procurement Directives. It allows a number of suitably qualified potential service providers and experts on to a panel, from which they may then be selected to provide services as the need arises.
The HSE's statement said that the estimated maximum value of €10 million is an indicative guide.
"The HSE anticipates that the value of these services, if fully procured, will be around €1.5 million per year over four years. These specialist services relate to issues such as value for money studies, corporate tax services, specialist internal audit services designed to save money and release more finances for front line services."
