Drugs with a total estimated street value of €11.5 million were seized in two separate Garda operations in Dublin and Kildare yesterday, bringing the total value of drugs seized this month alone to more than €16 million.
As part of an ongoing investigation, gardaí and customs officials carried out a planned search of a premises in Carbury, Co Kildare yesterday afternoon and seized 1.2 tonnes of cannabis resin valued at €10 million.
Three Irish men aged 27, 30 and 43 and a 54-year-old Spanish man were arrested and detained under Section 2 of the Drug Trafficking Act. Two of the men were last night being detained in Naas Garda station while the others were held at Newbridge and Kildare town Garda stations. An articulated lorry and a van were also seized at the scene.
Meanwhile, in Coolock, Dublin, gardaí seized about 20kg of cocaine, worth €1.5million. A 34-year-old man was arrested, taken to Santry Garda station and held under Section 2 of the Drug Traffic Act. Under the terms of the Act, suspects can be held for up to seven days without charge.
The seizure comes less than a week after detectives recovered cocaine worth €4.5 million in a raid on a house in Perrystown in Dublin.
Last month, three men were charged following a €1.5 million cocaine raid on a house in Portlaoise.
