€11 million in funding for equality projects

The Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform, Mr Michael McDowell today announced the allocation of funding under Phase II of the Equality for Women Measure.

Of the almost €11 million earmarked for the measure, €7 million has been set aside to fund the development of projects located in Revitalising Areas by Planning Investment and Development (RAPID) locations.

Announcing his decision, Mr McDowell said: "The decision to target RAPID areas, has the capacity to ensure that gender equality is for everyone, and that economically and socially disadvantaged areas can play their part."

In addition to the funding for RAPID areas, the Minister has allocated €2 million to fund learning projects developed in Phase I of the Measure. A further €1 million is being granted to FÁS to fund the "Gateways for Women" initiative which targets women returning to the labour market.

The Minister added that funding of €300,000 has been set aside for the programme of Equality Reviews and Action Plans which is being managed by the Equality Authority.

A further €50,000 has been allocated to the "Future Leaders" programme which provides training to women in senior management positions in the public and private sectors.
