Eleven new cases of BSE (Bovine Spongiform Encephalopathy) were found in the State's cattle during March, the Department of Agriculture revealed yesterday, writes Sean MacConnell, Agriculture Correspondent.
This brings the total for the first quarter of the year to 35, four more than in the first quarter of 1999, which was the worst year on record.
The new cases were found in two herds in Co Cork, two in Co Meath, two in Co Westmeath and there were single cases in counties Cavan, Monaghan, Longford, Kilkenny and Wexford.
