Twelve business people were fined between £500 and £3,000 at Dublin District Court yesterday for failing to make income tax returns to the Revenue Commissioners.

John Russell, publisher, Main Street, Tallaght, was fined £2,500 for failing to lodge returns for five years; Eugene Macari, musician, Rossfield Park, Tallaght - £750 for three years; James Thomas, a butcher, Bally lease, Donabate - £1,000 for four years; Koon Sun Tsang, takeaway operator, Griffith Downs, Dublin - £1,500 for six years.

Also fined were: Vincent Byrne, an electrician, Dun luce Road, Clontarf - £1,000 for four years; Charles Byrne, foreign income earner, Tymon Crescent, Tallaght - £3,000 for six years; Louis Carter, taxi-driver, Cherry Park, Swords - £3,000 for six years; Seamus McLoughlin, haulier, Balkill Park, Howth - £1,500 for six years; John O'Keefe, station ery and print seller, Home lawn Road, Tallaght - £1,500 for six years; Richard Williams, maintenance engineer, The Grove, Kingswood Heights, Tallaght - £1,500 for six years; Michael Emery, tarmacadam layer, Oakwood Avenue, Swords - £500 for two years; Liam O Giobtha, Berkeley Street, Dublin - £500 for two years.
