Medical servicesSixteen people, 15 children and one adult, were transported from Dún Laoghaire harbour to five Dublin hospitals, including St Vincent's, St James's and Our Lady's Hospital Crumlin, when a number of boats capsized near the West Pier during a children's regatta.
The HSE said 35 ambulances from across the State were called and that a further 195 people were assessed at Dún Laoghaire and later released. No life-threatening conditions were reported from any of the hospitals and the majority of those taken in were treated for shock, exposure and possible hypothermia before being released.
Our Lady's Hospital activated its internal emergency programme following the incident. A hundred additional staff from all departments were called in as cover.
A 14-year-old boy was taken to Crumlin from Dún Laoghaire to be treated. He was said to be in stable and was expected to be discharged last night. An official end of the emergency was announced shortly after 5pm yesterday.
Emergency consultant in Our Lady's Hospital Dr Seán Walsh said: "Fortunately nobody seems to have been seriously injured today and the emergency plan ran efficiently."
