A lottery jackpot ticket-holder today became the biggest loser in Ireland’s Lotto history after failing to pick up nearly £3 million in prize cash.
Somebody bought the ticket in North Dublin in June, but despite matching all six numbers failed to collect the prize.
An advertising campaign was launched urging the winner to come forward but as the 5.30 p.m. deadline passed the cash was put back into the prize pool.
It is the biggest unclaimed prize in Lotto history. If the winner had turned up it would have been the ninth biggest prize standing at £2,717,334.
The numbers - 2, 7, 13, 15, 27 and 34 - were entered for the Lotto and Lotto Plus games. The ticket was bought from Acorn Newsagent in Coolock.
National Lottery said tonight any chance of the prize being claimed had gone.
Director Mr Ray Bates said, but that is the game.
"My message to this mystery person is to keep playing but make sure you check your ticket next time."
The previous record for an uncollected prize was £1million.
